My sister and her partner were here recently for a visit. I asked her to send me this photo, (that’s her in the striped shirt). Perhaps it’s because I’m a middle aged suburban mom leading a pretty quiet life that I felt like doing a little name dropping. Look who she’s with! Stacy and Clinton from What Not to Wear. They were filming an episode in the CN tower in Toronto and needed a few extra people to hoot and clap as they ambushed an unsuspecting bad dresser. I’m not a huge tv watcher, more of a channel flicker, but I’ve stopped on What Not to Wear a few times, simply because the hosts are funny and so watchable .
I approach fashion the same way I change the clock in my car during daylight savings time - do nothing and eventually I’ll be current again. Luckily, I never got stuck back in the early 80’s. Here’s me back then, I looked like I got my “fur-do” done at the PetSmart grooming center. Yep, I’m certain I would have won Best in Show (to my feeble defense, permed mullets were all the rage).
I can’t take fashion seriously but I do like the historical aspects of it. Check out this short film from the 1930’s (possibly 40’s) in which fashion designers predict what we’d be wearing in the year 2000. Why the light up, bridal halo didn’t catch on is anybody’s guess.

That is soooo funny. I too, had a permed mullet in the 80's. I remember when I had it done and I thought I looked "too cool". One of those photos where you wonder.."what was I thinking".
That film is FANTASTIC. I want the electric belt! And how forawrd-thinking were they, though the phone + radio + etc. for the man is still not quite an iPhone, is it? And I love the photo -- I have a great 'studio' photo of me circa 1986 with so much permed hair I can hardly believe it. 'Course a huge chunk of it fell out the next time I permed it...
It's the pleated skirt that worries me!
Strangely, the best hair cut I ever had was in 1980 and it had that 40s look to it.
Then it all went downhill...
Great photos!
Yeah, I briefly had a sort of mullet-like cut in the early 80s, too. Thankfully I don't think there exists any photographic proof of that haircut...and I recall owning of those kind of skirts, too. Oy.
Alright girls, let's see those bad haircuts from your reckless youth. Melody already has, Patricia is completely off the hook with some recent posted photos on her blog, that leaves Andrea and Dinah.
There actually is a website of mullets, but I couldn't link to it because it was more disturbing than funny.
I am so non trendy...I thought a mullet was a fish!
Anyway, you're "on" if I can find any postable photos. It could take some time...
