Illustration Friday - Fearless

I photographed this one in 6 different settings and still couldn't get it to look right. I drew/painted this today while sitting alone on Mother's Day, nursing a whopper of a cold that's finally letting up. The man and the kids went to grandmas and I drew and watched an extraordinary amount of  TV and had toast for dinner. Stupid cold. It also prevented me from making it to the opening of the Artspacific show  this week. My painting Unravel won an award.  (yay). I'm pushing that black cloud away, starting to feel much better, all will be well tomorrow.

makes me feel so un alone...as far as taking multiple shots and still not getting it. cool painting. of course after hearing about your cold it reminds me of you pushing back the disease/germs. glad you got to just rest and watch copious amount of tv. congrats (again)!!!!

Hello Ellen, this is my first time at your blog and I'm really quite taken by your art! You have such a strong conceptual style and your birds are just amazing... Nice meeting you here. :)

My first time here too. :) This is a lovely painting for IF. Sorry you had to make it while feeling under the weather, you'd never know it! Congratulations on the award! :o)x

NOT my first time here. :) I'm glad you've been able to make lemonade out of lemons. This looks like one of your girls, trying to avoid being encroached on by one of Tracy's Black paintings. :)

Great painting of the girl and the black cloud. I hope you will be able to push your cold into the abyss very soon, too.
Congratulations on your award! You are in fine company by the looks of the poster.
My husband worked most of Mother's Day, but I did get a nice breakfast before I took my kids to Harrison to enjoy the sunshine (with a LOT of other people - tourist season has begun in earnest).

Interesting piece, you are pushing the cloud away but it is also supporting you. Do you want to keep your (nicely drawn) feet on solid ground, or take a chance floating or falling into the cerulean void?

The illustraion is actually of my daughter, I'm older and fatter. I seem to be suffering from some blogging laryngitis. I'm not sure what the rememdy is, time I suppose. I'll be back eventually. Thanks again for all your comments you wonderful people!

I really like it because it can represent a struggle against a myriad of obstacles...the sinister swarm of blackness held at bay when you are willing to go to the edge and face it.
I especially appreciate that you can see that it is starting to work...the subject is making a dent.

btw: we had a power outtage and I took it as a sign..so I gotteth me to the outsidery and I am lovin' it.
